Abstract

The paper tackles mid-1940s social surveys in Poland since the end of World War II till when sociology was banned from the universities. These surveys were undertaken by those aware that the World War II’s experience, the after-war recovery, displacement of people and the structural political change as well as the outset of great industrialization and urbanization process made up a unique sociology’s laboratory. Some of the surveys had been completed, but many others forgotten. When unearthed after many years of oblivion they provide an important source of the history of society as well as the history of sociology.
