Sozoekologia społeczna Zbigniewa Tadeusza Wierzbickiego
Abstrakt
This article explores the origins and development of social sozoecology, a subdiscipline of sociology introduced by Polish sociologist Zbigniew Tadeusz Wierzbicki. Drawing upon the intellectual legacy of the Chicago School and Florian Znaniecki’s human ecology, Wierzbicki proposed a model that integrates ecological concerns with sociocultural dynamics. He emphasized the interdependence between human society and nature, advancing a biotic-cultural approach to environmental protection. His work redefined the human-nature relationship as a dialectical system requiring ethical responsibility, sustainable development, and interdisciplinary engagement.
The paper outlines the historical trajectory of Wierzbicki’s thought, his empirical and activist contributions to environmental advocacy in Poland, and the conceptual maturation of sozoecology into sozoecopedagogy—an educational model grounded in environmental ethics. Wierzbicki’s innovative vision, shaped over five decades of scholarly and public engagement, established a theoretical and practical framework for understanding environmental degradation as a sociological problem. In an age of ecological crisis, his call for a new humanism rooted in ecological responsibility and moral transformation remains both prescient and increasingly relevant.
