Abstract

To specify the subject-matter of Polish rural sociology poses nowadays the pivotal theoretical challenge. Sociology, moreover, faces some more practical demands, also. They are consequent upon the need to justify and propagate political steps aiming at the balanced development and the outcomes monitoring thereof. This means that a matter of interest remains, first of all, the economic development of the countryside, entirely determined, as it is, for a decade, by the demands of the integration of the Polish countryside and the Polish farming with the EU structures, and the social development conditioned by laying foundations of the information society in the countryside. The possibility of copying with the aforementioned might be questioned, since for the last two decades the Polish rural sociology has been diminishing its institutional background.
